Secondary students typically are scheduled into advanced general education courses as a cohort in English, math, science, and social studies, with special education support provided by a co-teacher or paraeducator. Learning for Independence LFI services are designed for students with complex learning and cognitive needs, including mild to moderate intellectual disabilities.
Services support the implementation of Alternate Academic Learning Outcomes aligned with Curriculum 2. SCB services include the following components: age-appropriate classes, heterogeneous groups, peer interactions, individualized instruction, community instruction, and transition. The goal of the program is to provide intensive educational programming to enable students to acquire appropriate social and communicative skills and prepare them for post-secondary opportunities.
Students are served in a continuum of settings that may include self-contained classes and opportunities for participation in general education classes with nondisabled peers as appropriate. Many students require social and emotional supports in order to access their academic program.
Comprehensive behavior management is utilized that includes proactive teaching and rehearsal of social skills, as well as the use of structured and consistent reinforcement systems. Students served by this model have a diagnosis of an Autism Spectrum Disorder. These students are accessing the general education curriculum and are participating in Mod-MSA; specifically, these students are approximately two to three years below grade level.
Students are included in all academic classes in the general education environment with accommodations for reduced work load and altered pacing of instruction, as appropriate. The Secondary Autism Program classes are self-contained classrooms in comprehensive middle and high school buildings.
These students are placed at Bridges in order to provide a more structured environment where the staff is able to work intensively with small groups of students. The half-day program offers a morning or afternoon session for students. The curriculum employed by Bridges parallels other school districts, but also adds social skills training, conflict resolution and aggression replacement training. The academic curriculum provides high school credit for grades 9 through Louis, MO The SSD St.
Students are provided with instruction and the opportunity to earn credits towards graduation. JDC is located in the St. Louis County Family Court Center.
