Create new folder windows 8

I am using my Microsoft Account for the user profile. I have also tried local account. Doesn't make a difference. I am not able to create a folder on the desktop but I can create folders in the folders under Libraries. That is the only place I can create them.

I also am unable to create a pin number for my user account. Maybe related. I have windows 8 up on several computers and none of them behave like this one.

They all are able to create folders anywhere. Thanks for you help, Ray. In reply to RayJay55's post on January 27, Forgot to mention that the "New" option shows up on a right click on the library folders. Hi Ray, Thank you for reverting back and let us know the status of the issue. I would suggest you to try the following steps and check if it helps.

After backing up the registry, please follow the steps below to import the registry: a. Copy the following commands and then paste them into the open Notepad window. Windows Registry Editor Version 5. Keep us posted on the status of the issue. In reply to Vijin V's post on January 28, Hi Vijin, Thank you for the help! This fixed the not being able to add a new folder by clicking on the "New" option in the explorer tool bar. However when I implemented this, I got a system error saying not all keys were added because they were open in another process.

The "New" option on the right click menu is still not showing. Also was this supposed to fix the not be able to create a pin because that still doesn't work. I created a restore point before I did this. Should I restore and try it again? Thanks, Ray.

I think I know what the problem was. I believe I had a copy of the file explorer open when I executed the regfix. Restored the system and tried again making sure explorer wasn't running and got the same error.

Some keys are open by the system or other processes, or you have insufficient privileges to perform this operation Obviously part of it got written because I can create a folder using the icon on the explorer tool bar. One by one, I installed my applications, and checked for the issue after each installation.

The culprit turned out to be a backup application called Memeo Backup. This backup utility came with a Seagate external hard drive. The actual file causing the problem was the LifeAgent Explorer extension that Memeo installs. All I did was uninstall the Life Agent extension and Memeo continues to function without it. Since Memeo integrates itself with Windows Explorer menus, I'm guessing that it is this interaction that causes the New Folder icon to stop functioning.

I realized your situation was worse than mine, but it could also be caused by some application on your computer. Your only hope, I think, is to revert to the basic OS and add back your applications, one by one.

Besides, for some of us, this is actually fun. Before doing that, see if you have Memeo or LifeAgent installed on your computer by going to your Control Panel and opening "Programs and Features". Look at each item carefully to see if either is listed.

Dashboard is another possibility, since that also comes from Seagate. If you upgraded to Windows 7 or 8, there could be applications from previous Windows versions that now cause conflicts. Highlight any suspect application, one at a time, and click "uninstall". You might have to restart Windows to see if the issue is gone. By uninstalling the extension, I mean to use the Programs and Features control panel, as described above.

I have a similar problem. I added a "cloud backup solution" from Pogoplug and even after uninstalling it I remain unable to use the "Save" or "Save As" function from nearly all my windows programs.

I believe that this is caused by an error in the registry data for the function call to the "file create" routine within windows. I can use the CMD function to create a file anywhere in the system with "copy con: test. I believe that the error is a single character ie. Since I do not have "Briefcase" enabled on my system, this likely caused the problem. I am still searching how to "unlink" this stuff or determine if the error is in the CLASS for the function or in the improper call to that function.

I have this problem right now and tried all above methods to resolve this but still the problem exists. The only way I have found to add a folder is using an FTP program and choosing "new folder" with that.

Even the add folder option found when using Open or Save As doesn't work. I have not done any real alterations to the system other than adding software. This problem has been present since the beginning.

Please help me find a fix. I'm getting tired of having to open another 3rd party program just to organize my hard drive. This thread is locked. To create a new folder in Windows 8, first open the folder within which you want to create a subfolder in File Explorer, so that its contents are displayed in the pane at the right.

The process is the same for Windows 8, too. Try the Windows 8. Try It Free.
